Zach Sanders

Norfolk Island, Australia

Zach is a photographer from the amazing Norfolk Island which is situated 1000 miles off the East Coast of Australia with a population of just over 2000 people.

His passion for photography started 4 years ago when he picked up a camera and couldn't put it down. Zach's inspiration comes from the naturally beautiful and rugged little island in the middle of nowhere that he calls home.

Zach specialises in water photography which came about from his love of surfing, the ocean, its inhabitants and of course the waves. The ocean is such an amazing, unpredictable place that demands a lot of respect, therefore you just never know what you are going to get when you enter it's depths.

Zach does an incredible job of showing us the world through his eyes.

10 Questions with Zach

1. WHAT GOT YOU STARTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY?
I have always really enjoyed photography but I never had the money to buy a camera. So about 3 and a half years ago I saved enough cash for a half decent camera but at the same time got pretty sick with depression and photography became my escape from everything and it has been my passion ever since.

2. EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL?
I would have to say early bird probably from years of surfing and getting up at the crack of dawn to get out in the waves super early. But as I am now shooting and have a little family I’m turning into a bit of a night owl haha.

3. FEAR OF?
I guess I'd have to say my biggest fear would have to be death because where the hell do you go?

4. WHAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
I don’t really have a bucket list as such. I’m not really a very structured or planned person but I guess for me; I just want to achieve my goals in photography and be the best dad and husband for my family and travel more.

5. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
Fury with Brad Pitt - pretty epic movie.

6. FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU'VE TRAVELLED?
Favourite place I have travelled... mmm that’s a hard one. My partner and I did a round the world trip for 9 months in 2009 and we went to so many different places I can't really say if I have a favourite. They were all so good in so many different ways. I loved the US as we drove from one end of the country to the other over a month and just to see how diverse that place was is pretty rad. Japan was cool, Morocco was good too.

7. IF YOU COULD LEARN ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Probably learn how to fly a plane, I have flown a couple of light planes but would love to learn to fly some more.

8. WHAT IS THE SCARIEST AND/OR HARDEST THING YOU'VE DONE?
Surfing Pipe in Hawaii, it's surreal surfing that place when it's big and so many people hassling for waves.

9. SOMEONE YOU'D LIKE TO MEET?
Anyone I have something in common with.

10. FAVOURITE QUOTE?
"You can do anything you put your mind to"
