10 Questions with Dom
1. FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU'VE TRAVELLED?
I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively, tattooing has literally opened up a ‘world of opportunity’. It’s like asking what is your favourite piece at a gallery, every place has its own unique, eclectic lived experience. Notable mentions would probably be Nepal, Amsterdam, and my new home Vietnam. Saigon is an insane sprawl of industrial development intertwined with eastern traditions and amazing traditional iconography.
2. FEAR OF?
Time, the dreaded countdown that we’re all powerless to stop. If that ain’t the biggest incentive to get into gear and build something then what is?
3. WHAT IS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?
I’d love to design my own house.
4. DOGS OR CATS?
I was 100% team dog but I’m slowly realising I share more personality traits with cats, plus my partner is a cat fanatic so inevitably there will be a few cats around the house eventually.
5. IF YOU COULD LEARN ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
In an online world, any of us can learn whatever we want now! At the moment I’m trying to (re)learn advanced 3D modelling for application in 3D printing and CNC manufacturing, I love industrial design so anything to do with bringing a functional, tangible object to life from a sketch is so so satisfying. I’d also like to learn the ins and outs of Aquascaping, creating those underwater worlds seems so fun and interesting.
6. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
Scent of a woman. God damn, Al Pacino is mesmerising in that film
7. WHAT IS THE SCARIEST AND/OR HARDEST THING YOU'VE DONE?
Probably leaving everything I knew for a one way ticket to be with my girl, big risks/big rewards. Skydiving was pretty scary too.
8. SOMEONE YOU'D LIKE TO MEET?
This answer literally changes almost every time a watch a new Ted Talk, cross-disciplinary creative entrepreneurs. I think a conversation over a beer with James Jebbia would change everything.
9. FAVOURITE QUOTE?
“Have no fear of perfection; you’ll never reach it” Dali
10. WHAT GOT YOU STARTED IN TATTOOING?
I think I’d subconsciously been building a portfolio for some kind of underground art form and fell into tattooing coincidentally by having coffee next to a tat shop and being hustled inside by the manager to try score a forcibly persuaded walk-in. I didn’t get tattooed but I brought in a portfolio the next day. Luckily they weren’t too critical on the work because it really wasn’t that good, I worked there for a while apprenticing until one day I arrived to find the front window shattered with a 12 gauge shotgun. I took a break for about a year then got another apprenticeship, it’s been about 7 years now.
