10 Questions with Andrew

1. What got you started in photography?
My mum is a photo-realistic wildlife and nature artist and no doubt my interest in photography comes from her. Reference photos are very important for creating photo-realistic art so my mum regularly had a camera with her and I was regularly stealing it. The rest, as they say is history.

2. Favourite place you've travelled?
Banff National Park, Canada. This place immediately springs to mind not just because I currently live here, but because it as a town has had the biggest impact on my life. There isn't enough space on Steen's web server to hold all the good things I could say about this area. I haven't even left and I already can't wait to come back.

3. Early Bird or Night Owl?
Hands down I'm a night owl. My love of night photography probably hasn't helped this but hey...who likes bed time anyway?

4. Fear of?
Not sure if this is a fear, but I hate the idea of settling down in one place for too long. I have some pretty itchy travel feet, I'm always thinking of the next adventure and the next country on my hit list.

5. What is on your bucket list?
Visiting a place with a 24 hour night or a 24 hour day. This seems like the craziest, coolest most mind-boggling thing ever and I want to be all up in it.

6. Last movie you've watched?
Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Yep.

7. If you could learn anything, what would it be?
I know a handful of words and phrases from half a dozen languages, but being bilingual and fluent would be pretty awesome. French has been on my radar for a while and I'll get there eventually.

8. What is the scariest and/or hardest thing you've done?
Leaving a secure, comfortable life in Australia with no certainty about my future, no plans except a plane ticket, not knowing anybody and not knowing when I would set foot back on familiar soil. Either that or watching The Phantom Menace. That was pretty brutal.

9. Someone you'd like to meet?
This is so hard for me to narrow down to one person. I think generally speaking, the people I enjoy meeting most are those who are super stoked on life. The people who talk about their ideas, plans and dreams rather than the people who just talk about other people and which bar they want to go to that night. Ugh, no thanks.

10. Favourite quote?
"Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something." - Jake the Dog
